The BET Hip Hop Awards nominations were announced recently and it’s Kendrick Lamar leading the way.
The rapper secured a massive 14 nominations, including MVP of the Year, Lyricist of the Year and Album of the Year for his critically-acclaimed debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city.
The album is up against J. Cole’s Born Sinner, Jay Z’s Magna Carta… Holy Grail, Nas’ Life Is Good, and Wale’s The Gifted.
“It’s a privilege to be a part of it,” Kendrick said after the announcement. “For the most part, BET always acknowledges my talent and I always hold that as an honor, so I’m blessed.”
Drake has 13 nominations, while J. Cole is close behind with 10.
The 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards is set to tape at Atlanta’s Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center on September 28th, and premiere on BET on October 15th.
Snoop Dogg has been tapped to serve as host this year. “We’re going to have fun this year and I will make it a show to remember, ya dig?!” he said. “I’ll be giving a ton of surprises, showcasing my exclusive GGN News clips and bringing all my nieces and nephews to the stage for an exciting night of hip-hop.”
