
As his worldwide reputation continues to explode Compton’s emcee extraordinaire Kendrick Lamar will be making his live debut in Australia this December. The recent winner of the ‘Lyricist of the Year’ trophy at the BET Hip Hop Awards will be performing four dates in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.
The tour dates come fresh from his major label debut, the highest selling album from a new artist in 2012. good k.i.d., m.A.A.d city is expected to sell more than 241,000 copies in it’s final first week sales, According to Nielsen SoundScan. It is currently topping the Billboard Rap and Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart and sits at #2 on the Billboard 100, behind only Taylor Swift’s Red.
A co-founder of hip hop supergroup Black Hippy, alongside Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul, Lamar has come a long way from the mixtape scene where he first developed his craft. After the buzz began to spark with 2010’s Overly Dedicated mixtape it was in 2011 that the arrival of a star was announced with the highly acclaimed Section 80, one of the top digital hip hop releases of the year.
All tickets purchased for the previous dates will remain valid in that city. The new allocation of tickets for Sydney and Melbourne shows go on sale 9am Wednesday October 31.
