I had the pleasure of attending the last leg of Kingswood’s Australian tour on Saturday the 18th and after a few gins (thanks, Juniperlooza) I was full of enthusiasm and rebellious spirit.
I actually have fond memories of my dad’s old Kingswood and can thank pop for drilling into me the classic rock from Gold 104.3 when I was being taken to school as a child. Off to a great start, I say!
Under the glowing blue of The Forum’s unforgettable ceiling, I was not sure what to expect from the Melbourne lads seeing my preparation needed a little to be desired. Melbourne’s punters came out to play and filled the space to a healthy level and were warmed up thanks to the sounds of The Vanns and Dear Seattle.
Once the main attraction hit the stage I was quickly blown off my feet with a master class of sweet modern rock and constant incredible energy from the whole band. The only let up was courtesy of the more laid-back lead single Golden, which ushered in a gentle sway the whole crowd simultaneously rode.
The band navigated their way through the night via tracks featured on the new album After Hours, Close To Dawn, which has received some rave reviews, and rightfully so.
Along with a bunch of tracks from their new album and a few from years gone by the lads surprised the audience with a cover of the Destiny’s Child classic Say My Name – an odd choice but certainly a moment which woke up anybody feeling a tad shady.
After initially being unsure as to how this night would go down, I was super glad I attended.
