Like many of hip hop’s great producers, Quentin Tarantino has “sampled” from many classic and obscure films to concoct his own unique creations.
Being released in the US on December 25, his new slavery-centered film Django Unchained, borrows from the spaghetti western and blaxploitation genres among others. The new soundtrack is no different and features tracks from both the past and present.
Rick Ross contributes the ominous 100 Black Coffins, while Anthony Hamilton and John Legend both deliver stirring soulful cuts.
Also included is the beyond-the-grave collaboration The Payback/Untouchable, a mash-up between late greats James Brown and Tupac. As is to be expected, the soundtrack also features classic movie themes from Italian composers Ennio Morricone and Luis Bacalov.
