# Album Review: Ariana Grande – My Everything

The Nickelodeon-actress-turned-pop-sensation **Ariana Grande** drops the eagerly awaited sophomore album *My Everything*. Undoubtedly following **Mariah Carey’s** footsteps in becoming the queen of collaborations, the 21-year-old boasts an impressive collection of featured artists. From EDM superkid **Zedd** to controversial rapper **Childish Gambino**, this girl is unstoppable.

The album opens with a number of radio-friendly tracks. After the delicately delivered Intro, two of the leading ladies in music right now hit it with *Problem*. With the big brass section, big voices and big hair, Australia’s own **Iggy Azalea** gets sassy with **Ariana** to release arguably the song of the year. **Ariana** also joins forces with EDM giants **David Guetta** and **Zedd**for *One Last Time* and *Break Free* respectfully.

*Break Free* serves as the second single off the album. Despite predominantly being a pop/R&B artist, **Ariana** explores the dance genre with enthusiasm. Keeping an open mind and blurring genres is evidently one of the survival tips in today’s music business. Lyrically, this will be the break up anthem for girls all over the world.

It is not long before **Ariana** eases into the R&B diva that is rapidly evolving within the young artist. Starting with *Big Mistake*, **Ariana** teams up with **Big Sean** once again, this time, taking a darker turn with this beautifully haunting number. This is followed by the alluring *Be My Baby*, featuring **Cashmere Cat**. **Ariana** displays a cheeky and flirtatious side, particularly with her husky tones in her voice, which contributes to the sultriness of the song. Working with Cashmere Cat is definitely a step in the right direction as the Jersey Club sound continues its emergence.

**Childish Gambino** lends a verse in the stand-out track *Break Your Heart Right Back*, where **Ariana** accepts the fate of her boyfriend leaving her for another man. The song samples the **Diana Ross** classic *I’m Coming Out*, a subtle way to emphasise the reality of the situation. But the song that has caused much anticipation is **Ariana’s** collaboration with **The Weeknd** on *Love Me Harder*. Both possess vulnerability in their character that transcends through their music as individual artists.

**Ariana** slows it down with *Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart*, which was co-penned by **One Direction’s Harry Styles**. When the hottest member of a hugely successful boyband writes for the current It-Girl, it is a recipe of success for young yearning hearts.

*My Everything* takes a mature leap in **Ariana Grande’s**career. She has grown sexier and more provocative but maintains her pop sensibility, innocence and purity. It is still only the beginning for the young star. But with her strong, unique voice and years of life experience ahead, we can only expect bigger and better music to come our way.
