Lauryn Hill is one of music’s most fascinating people, from her time with the Fugees to her colourful solo career and recent tax troubles.
These would clearly be prime subjects for a probing interview special, particularly on Oprah Winfrey‘s new TV show Oprah’s Next Chapter. Hill was approached by Winfrey for an interview but apparently no woman, no cry.
the eccentric singer was clearly not keen on the idea of breaking down on command. Last week, when asked on Twitter if Hill would appear the media mogul tweeted “tried. She said no.” So far Oprah has conducted emotional sit-downs with the likes of Rihanna, 50 Cent and Paris Jackson.
The 37-year-old singer is currently facing the prospect of three years behind bars for failing to file her tax returns from the years 2005-2007. According to documents she owes the U.S. government a whopping $1.8 million.
On June 29th she plead guilty to three misdemeanour charges in the U.S. District Court in Newark, New Jersey. She was freed after paying a $150,000 unsecured bond and must return to court for sentencing on November 27th.
