J Dilla’s ‘The Diary’ Album Set For Release

James Yancey’s Estate has revived J Dilla’s longstanding company PayJay as an active label to release Dilla’s long lost vocal album, The Diary in conjunction with Mass Appeal Records.

It features the late J Dilla on the mic, as well as guest appearances from Bilal, Snoop Dogg, Frank and Dank, Nottz and more. Producer credits go to Hi-Tek, Pete Rock, Malib, House Shoes and Dill himself ofcourse.

The Diary consists of unissued work that Dilla assembled for release while still with us. Its final form was meticulously assembled over a 10-year period from two-track mixdowns and multi-track masters stashed in Dilla’s archives after his death in 2006.

The album was announced recently in an interview with Nas on Zane Lowe’s show on Beats 1, where the never-before-heard song The Introduction was premiered.
